People Having Fun

Day 5

Tusenfryd and a long long journey

Day 5 - July 16

The 16 passenger boat traverses the speed hill on SUPERSPLASH.

The morning ERS queue – i.e. a bevy of endless entertainment.

Rik Turner proves that he's a man who comes prepared (former boy scout??)

In addition to THUNDERCOASTER, TusenFryd granted members a chance
to scale the SUPERSPLASH lift.

Behold -- The ERS Fashion Divas!

The SUPERSPLASH ERS got a bit silly at times.

For example...

Flipper didn't receive his ECC membership card in time for the event
but was allowed to join in on the ERS nonetheless.

A glimpse at the wet and the weary.

SPLASH!

LOOPING – one of the planet's smoother Vekoma coasters.

TusenFryd provided a most hospitable feast.

A worrisome queue!!!

On arriving at Tusenfryd, a ride on Thundercoaster was in order - and having ridden this a couple of years ago, I was somewhat disappointed - the ride has gotten rough and lost a lot of its pace - taking what was a world class woodie down into the realms of merely average. A great shame that knowing what this ride is capable of, it's now a shadow of its former self.

Stephen Knight
Thundercoaster was still great ride ride, despite its increased roughness. That second drop has got to be the best drop on any woody. The morning ERS on Supersplash was great fun, if a little on the damp side! I spent the rest of the day in the waterpark enjoying the Norwegian sunshine, and some fun waterslides.

Mark Riley
TusenFryd's hospitality from 2001 rolled on this year. With two lift walks, two exclusive ride sessions and an all-you-can-eat buffet, they really made everyone feel very welcome. Personally I still really enjoyed ThunderCoaster even though it has become rougher. SuperSplash ERS was great fun with water flying around all over the place! We're currently heading to Stockholm for GronaLund tomorrow.

Richard and Claire Davis
Simply a beautiful park on a hillside. A great new ride in Supersplash, but we found time has not been good to Thundercoaster. Too rough to truly enjoy now, which is a real shame, as the design of the ride itself looks great with the second drop being the highlight.

Marc Cole
I think I forgot yesterday to say that Liseberg's two coaster's are solidly within my five in the wood and steel classification. I still love the Phoenix but Balder is right up there and the Lisebergbanan might just have replaced the Incredible Hulk! Amazing, one park and two top five coasters. Tusenfryd's ThunderCoaster was somewhat of a let down from others hype. I enjoyed the layout but for me, it is not a re-ridable coaster. SuperSplash was just that - a super splash! I really enjoyed this morning's ERS. Looking forward to another day but not the coach ride.

Gordon Taylor
Thundercoaster is one of the roughest... if seated above a wheel. BUT get a middle row and it's a completely different ride: wild, fast, airtime and so much more ridable. A terrific ride, ended up riding it non-stop, followed by a walk up the lift hill which the park were kind enough to let us all do! ERS on Supersplash was a real hoot. Mmmm, nice jugs!

John Wilkes
Tusenfryd was a great park and although those who had ridden it before weren't impressed by Thunder Coaster, I really enjoyed it. Perhaps the problem was riding Balder that morning; if that is a problem! It is such a nice park I would really like to go back in the near future. Climbing two lift hills was worth the journey alone.

Chris Hull
A general mixture of emotions and opinions regarding the two coasters ridden within the previous day. Thundercoaster had a lot to live up to from it's previous reports and given that we had all had such a good time on Balder. Admittedly when I rode TC before the evening's ERS I was initially very disappointed. The structure of the ride and "that drop" showed what it could be like but in it's current state it failed to live up to that. Speed seemed to be a major factor. However throughout the ERS (which sadly quite a few of the members felt the need to withdraw after 1 ride) it became clear that certain seats were better than others. It would be unfair to compare it to Balder - if we had all ridden TC first I'm sure some would have felt differently.. That said the park proved to be scenically stunning and the SuperSplash ERS in the morning was a fantastic time shared by a good many who quickly achieved saturation point!

Mick Fryer-Kelsey
Watersplash-Fantastic with swim costumes on and water jugs to hand. If you didn't get soaked by the ride, the jugs made sure you were soaked by the end of the ride. Thundercoaster has had some problems, but I still enjoyed it. Excellent hospitality at the park. Thanks.

Liz Fryer-Kelsey
Supersplash was fun, very wet, especially with the additional water from the jugs and water pistols. We had our change of clothes ready, so didn't mind getting wet. We went to the swimming pool after, which was very refreshing, as the weather is still very hot and humid.

Mick and Crystal say Thundercoaster is much slower and rougher than two years ago, it certainly was rough and I don't recommend riding over the wheels, but I liked it better than Balder.

Crystal Fryer-Kelsey
Supersplash was fantastic, a mini Poseidon, at face value, but a lot wetter. People with inflatables and waterpistols, but mainly empty jugs, which were filled and emptied very quickly over people's heads. Thundercoaster; well what can I say? Ouch. Two years ago I rode it and it went straight to the top of my woody list, but now it comes under the Grand National and even lower than the Big Dipper (BPB). If you have ridden it, don't let this put you off, if you get the chance to, then ride, but don't sit over the wheels. (Hi to everyone back home, Only four days left, so be good and I'll see you all soon. Love you and miss you.)

Steve Fagin
Could only manage two goes on Super Splash today as didn't like getting wet. Then saw the little water park area and completely changed my mind…had plenty of water slide races before lunchtime. Good stuff!

Bobby Nagy / Stephen Wimberly
Yesterday, Liseberg: a dream of a park! If the park had only steel coaster and one wood for good they need not build any more! The coolest of the cool coasters! The rides were only eclipsed by the parks generosity. Today, Tusenfryd: A bizarrely shaped park that's fun to discover what's around every corner. The park is more hilly than Busch Gardens Williamsburg and hotter than Fiesta Texas. Norway is beautiful no matter what the temperature!!

Derek Cramarty
Supersplash = Titanic!

Claire Mcfarlane
Yet another good day, Supersplash was excellent, thanks to Justin & Austin for keeping us wet whilst riding it. Thundercoaster was a bit rougher than two years ago, but I still managed to do 13 rides on it in the ERS.

Malcolm Marr
Well the saying goes you have to take the rough with the smooth and this sums up yesterday. Balder was the smooth and Thundercoaster was the rough but still a good coaster. It was a bit rude of some to spend the ERS on the exit bridge. A lot of people seemed to not want to ride this time because it wasn't as good as the previous trip. Each to their own. I made the most of the ERS. This morning SuperSplash was insane and extremely wet. Good to see Daphne getting her first trip on a coaster too.

David and Susan Ellis
Tusenfryd gave us the usual superb hospitality, including lift hill walks on both Thunder Coaster and SuperSplash. Thunder Coaster, although still a great coaster, was much rougher than when it opened, which was a disappointment. SuperSplash ERS was just Super. Inflatable Dolphins, swimming trunks, water wings and jugs full of water made for a VERY wet session. It is much wetter than Poseidon at Europa Park, although there are drier seats on it, but it was great fun. With the temperatures around 80f, the cooling down was very welcome.

Ian Mansfield
Today was great.

Jack Holmes
Tusenfryd, a thousand joys, literally. THUNDER not smooth, but still a thriller . SUPERSPLASH A DRY WET ride until Justin and Austin Rathe went bananas, dumping tons of water on us from Water pails. Glub glub glub. Fun trip…the best!

Andy Costin
Tusenfryd another excellent park, plenty of food. A fantastic time on SuperSplash, got drenched even when not riding! ThunderCoaster was unfortunately rather rough, but is potentially an excellent ride, if they took the trains off Roar!!! Weather still hot, and I still can't wear my tracksuit.

Derek Shaw
Tusenfryd has a Ghost Town in the Sky feel - you have to take a long escalator ride to get to the ride section. It was great to return there. Although Thundercoaster has become a much rougher ride since cct1, the second drop is still one of the best on the planet. Dagen er din!

This time our hotel was in downtown Oslo, affording the opportunity to explore this charming city. I really enjoyed the harbour area - it had an Inner Harbour (Baltimore) feel. I had the coldest and freshest tasting water I've ever had in the hotel - wish I could have taken gallons with me!

Olov Lundell
Now when I've finally ridden ThunderCoaster for the first time I wasn't disappointed at all, like some others seemed to be. Yes it's rough but it wasn't bad at all! When Tusenfryd fix the problems they have with the coaster I think it'll be back in the top with other famous coaster. Because besides the roughness it was full with airtime and lateral forces that Balder seems to miss I think. Oh but Balder was really flying in the night. Scandinavia now has a very very good collection of woodies. Now where's that terrain intamin hyper at Tusenfryd running down the hills?

Austin Rathe
I think we found ourselves in the interesting position of riding the best woodie in the world in the morning, and a ride that used to be the best woodie in the world in the afternoon. Still, I loved Thundercoaster, a real physical ride, lots of power. It isn't called Thundercoaster for nothing! After that we had Supersplash, and the best ERS of the trip, I think maybe people may want to get me back for being the "pitcher guy". Oh, and top marks to Robert Nagy for getting involved with the spirit of things during the ERS, top water action!

Tim Galvelis
Liseberg, and Tusenfryd, two hillside parks. Very tiring, and absolutely worth every bit of it. Some how though, it seems that the higher we go on this trip, the hotter it gets. By the time we get to Helsinki, it should be about 110 degrees farenheit. More later.

Steve Brett
Another great day. Can't believe I'm still awake - it's pretty knackering stuff, but well worth it.

Carole Sanderson
Tusenfryd was beautiful, in the mountains with the smell of pine trees. Thunder Coaster was very rough, needs some PTC trains. The dragons throughout the park are cool. Jeff - you're missing a good trip and a good trip is missing you.

Elaine Harper
Had great time today getting totally soaked on SuperSplash! Tusenfryd is a great little park, although it was a shame ThunderCoaster didn't live up to its reputation. All in all though it's been an amazing trip and we're only on day 5 :-)

Lindsey & Daren Hoy
The Thundercoaster ERS was a bit of a disappointment - as the ride was not as good as its former glorious ride of the original Skandi Tour in 2001. However, this was more than made up for by the lift hill walk after the ERS ride time.

The Supersplash ERS was great, and a good (wet) time was had by all.

The park itself was a great little park perched on what felt like the side of a mountain. (Alton Towers seemed flat in comparison) but fortunately, they had made good use of escalators to help you up the hills, and had enough varied attractions at each level to have a breather whilst on a ride!! Also, the prettiness on the park, and the view over the valley whilst on rides was simply breathtaking.

Gloria Nakamura
Loopen - the most comfortable Vekoma ever. I never thought I'd live to say the words, "That Vekoma ride was too short." Definitely worth the ride from Oslo! The real ride on SuperSplash is standing by the railing and getting hit by the splash. Getting hit in the face could take an eye out.
