Fantastic time at Latemar, Lornas first alpine coaster. Great scenery
Peter & Becky Jackson
My (Becky) first alpine coaster! Wonderful... Except Peter 'forgot' (yeah right) to break at the top of the lift hill, to gain some speed, so I had a rather fast ride. He also mananged to scare the man half to death by only breaking just after the orange line! Amazing scenery!
The second alpine coaster, was just as good as the first! Peter had me shouting 'brake!!!' again :) The brake never came on! Amazing experience.
Hans Zieleman
Beautiful scenery and a great alpine coaster. I did not use the brake until the very end...
Bob & Cheri Armstrong
The mountains are awesome. Still snow on the tops of some. Breathtaking views. Dinner last night included sampling local wines.
The gondola ride up the mountain was fun, and the alpine coaster also fun.
Hi to Mike & Al, Sue & Rich, andd Debbie.
Dave Hall
Beautiful place to come ride! 58 seconds is the time to beat at latemar :)
Rob Derman (Robnoxious)
Beautiful scenic mountains and a great alpine coaster... Life is good!!
Paul Worts
I'm no longer an Alpine Coaster virgin! And, I rode it with NO brakes (that's what I paid that extra travel insurance for after all). Stunning alpine scenery, although those on the coach getting scared when the coach goes round the mountain bends should come to La Palma!
Malcolm Marr
Found a bonus coaster last night at a small fair just outside Bolzano where we're staying. We've just left the first Albino coaster and are on our way to the second. It was all white. For those on the trip who are reading other people's posts on the coach I was lying about the extra park :D
Mette Doving
My first alpine coaster. Lot of fun in a beautiful place.
Matt Sturgess
An incredible place, with great views. The coaster was pretty good too, some nice airtime spots, expecially on the final drop (if you're going fast enough). At the time of writing I am still trying to perfect Malcolm's method of leaning out of the bends to make it go faster. More on this to come (hopefully).
Yvonne Janik
I loved the lift hill ride - so peaceful and surrounded by beautiful scenery, and then the ride down was swift and fun. I must confess to putting on the brake several times....
Rendell Bird
Words fail. The Dolomite Mountains are indescribably beautiful. The bus ride to Latemer was very scenic; and the gondola ride to the top of the mountain - breathtaking. The Alpine Coaster was quite fun,
Part 2 - Meron 2000
Adrian & Lorna Dade
This alpine coaster seemed faster than the first, a great ride and we had a great meal here.
Michael "maestoso" Horwood
Terrific COASTer(!). Good diving turns and a super, tight helix near the end. Unfortunately the "Sunday drivers" were also here, so we could only get in two goes. Oh, for 10 more.
Celia Horwood
Oh my! So what was more thrilling - stuffing ALL of us on the gondola, the actual ride on the gondola or the rides on the Alpine Coaster? Seems like a high adrenolin experience in all facets.
Dave Hall
5km cable car ride apparently, and the track time to beat on this on is 79 seconds. Few rides really unnerve me but this one did.
Cheri & Bob Armstrong
Alpine slide II. Long cable car (2 in fact) to the top of the mountain. We chose to have our two rides and get food at the bottom of the mountain. However, the restaurant was closed. Only 1/2 back to the hotel - so we will than look for dinner. This slide was longer and faster than the morning slide. However, more GP that used their brakes.
Derek Cromarty
Great ride, now back to the hotel to go on another cable car. perhaps i can doze on the way back to the hotel.
Hans Zieleman
Great ride, shame for the slow people who blocked me at the bottom section! It is not necessary to brake on this ride and my top speed was 52.5 km/h.
Malcolm Marr
Second albino coaster was madder than the first, we definitely did them in the right order.
Spectactularo viewsio and the cablo caro was superbo! (I think I've got the hang of this Italian language now).
Mette Doving
Too many small children, had to brake at the last run. First run was great and even better than the first alpine of the day.
Matt Sturgess
A much better coaster than the first, and a great helix finale. Managed to get the car to lean more to the outside of the corners alot more, and got a much wilder ride. Great views as before, and another long cable car ride, but there were too many chancers willing to try their luck at queue jumping, it didn't help merging two seperate lines together. A great day
Peter Oakes
I did a bit of braking on this ride because at the time i didn't believe the car couldn't come off the track.
Jon S & Dave P
First Apline coaster experience, both brillient fun and in stunning mountain top locations. Squeezing both us into one small car gave for a scarily fast ride with no chance of being able to operate the brakes. 6 cable car rides, 2 alpine coasters and a nice meal - good day!
David Hamburger
The drive up into the Ski resort of Latemar is breathtaking, as is the view from the mountain which holds the alpine coasater we came up to ride. The "coaster" itself was a lot of fun, though it was much faster when I held the accelerate/brake lever with my hands on the last run, instead of with my legs while taking pictures on my first two runs. One warning. Watch for the brake area! I didn't notice it on my first run and got slapped HARD bu the plastic curtains that hang down to make you slow down. A great day so far! And for those who are wondering, I think I'm going to count it as a coaster.
Paul Hindle
My 2nd alpine coaster - great fun - brake not needed!
Andreas and Mechthild
Although the first of two alpine coasters today has not been the big hit, the scenery and the way up to it have really been the big hit. Looking forward to the second A/C.
Allen Hite & Bob Wetherbee.
This was our first Weigand alpine coaster. It was blast. Break free all the way down and (during our first run) right through the orange strips - ouch :) It has a lift, coasts down, it's a coaster to us.
Lars & Audrey Colson
Second day of the trip and the Colsons are still having fun. Dolamites are beautiful. First alpine slide was fun and looking forward to the second of the day.
Sophie and Even
Great scenery, great weather, great alpine coaster and a great weissbier at the top! What more can you ask for? I have done a few of these. A few weeks ago, I rode the northernmost (Alpine) coaster in the world - Namsskogan, Norway at the Polar Circle, and Alpine coasters are always enjoyable! This was Sophie's first A/C, and she loved it! Breaking? No way! Now on our way to Merano2000!
Peter Oakes
The alpine coasters had very high lift hills i noticed, I would say as high as a good woodie. However they don't go as far or fast for their high lifts. I went down at full rip and they creaked on the bends as though they would jump off the tracks. From the lifts the only alpine flora i saw was campaniala, no gentians. A red squirrel ran past. Again the most spectacular scenery of the trip stole the show.
Celia Horwood
What a beautiful way to celebrate my birthday! The scenery is magnificent and the Alpine Coaster was a real pleasure to ride, ride and ride! And yes, it IS a coaster. Did anyone mention the way to the WC's? Not only could one walk down the stairs but most opted to take the slide down. Never in North America. I'm sure that Merano will be just as awesome.
Michael "Allegro con brio" Horwood
Short, fun coaster - ALPINE coaster - count it!!! Excellent and l-o-n-g cable car lift up and back. You won't see this ride from the road ;)
David Hamburger
The Meran 2000 alpine coaster was quite a bit better and faster than the Latemar one. And it had an even more spectacular view! Unfortunately, it also had a long line and line jumping kids and families. And some SLOW rider that caused traffic jams -- on the ride! Our first rides were fantastic, since it was almost all of us riding in a row -- ond no ECCer would be caught dead not going at full speed! But as we slowly came back in, the GP merged in the queue, killing our rides with their slow riding. Still, it's been a fantastic day in one of the most beutiful areas on the planet!
Audrey & Lars
Second alpine coaster in one day! The Colsons are still having fun!
